Two 17-year-old boys were killed in police firing in Guwahati on Thursday during anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest in the city.

Dipanjal Das was a temporary worker at Sainik Bhawan in Guwahati and resident of Chhaygaon. He on his way to go home after attending a protest rally at a ground in Latasi where several artists, singers and actors led by Assamese singer Zubeen Garg gathered to protest.

After leaving from the protest site, he reached Lachit Nahar. There, he got mixed up in a protrst rally in the area and the police fired rounds after the protest turned violent.

One of the bullets hit Dipanjal in that ruckus. He was rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) but he succumbed to his injuries there.

Sachin Das, a friend of Dipanjal said, "He [Dipanjal] belonged to an economically poor family and he worked at Sainik Bhawan as a waiter."

"The incident as happened at Lachit Nagar area when he was returning from the ground after attending a protest rally," Sachin Das said.

On the other hand, another 17-year-old student also died in police firing in Guwahati on Thursday.

The incident took place at Hatigaon area in the capital city of Assam on Thursday evening at around 7 pm. The victim student was identified as Sam Stafford and he was living with his family at Hatigaon area.

Nurul Hoque, a resident of Hatigaon area said, "The incident happened at the time when the curfew was still in place."

"James also took part in the anti-CAA protest rally at Hatigaon area and he received bullet injuries in police firing when the protest was going on in the area. A bullet hit his neck and he died on spot," Nurul Hoque said.

Doctors conducted the postmortem of the two victims at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and handed the bodies over to their respective relatives after completing all the formalities.
